●インナーマッスルの使い方が、パフォーマンスを向上させる“基本の動き”のカギとなる
たとえば、野球鵜の投球動作がからだ全体を使わずに“手投げ”になっている人がいるとしたら、この人の投球パフォーマンスはかなり低いことが分かると思います。からだ全体をダイナミックに使ったフォーム、動きは、スポーツパフォーマンスにとってとても重要だからです。
著者は、ジャンプやダッシュ、瞬発的な動きなどのスポーツパフォーマンスにとって最も重要といえる“基本的な動き”の部分で同様な現象が起きているといいます。その理由は、ほとんどの人が、全身の動きの“要(かなめ)”である股関節をうまく使えていないからです。
そして、股関節の動きをうまく引き出していくためのカギとなるのが、股関節周辺にある“インナーマッスル”であることに著者は気づきます。
●“動きづくり革命”の意味するもの
著者は、スポーツパフォーマンスを高めるための動きづくりに取り組み始めた当時のことを次のように述べています。
「インナーマッスルの存在がわかると今まで行ってきた正しいカラダの使い方をまねするだけでは、身につけることができないとわかってきました。というのは、インナーマッスルは自分の意志とは無関係に働いてしまうため、どんなによい動きをしようと思ってもそのように働いてくれないのです。
したがって、正しいカラダの使い方を習得するためには、動きを根本で支えているインナーマッスルをコンディショニングしてコントロールし、自分のカラダの動きを感じ取りながら正しい動きを積み上げていかなければならないのです」
